1. Visiting the Buddhist Temples.
The Temple of Tooth Relic
Since Kandy was the last kingdom of Ancient Sri Lanka, major attraction there is the Temple of Tooth Relic. You can easily visit this beautiful sacred temple from the town or railway station. Many rituals are taking place throughout the day in the temple.
Lankathilaka Viharaya has located few kilometers away from the city limits. But still worth a visit to see the beautiful Buddhist murals inside of the temple. The history of the temple goes back to 14th century. The main building is located on a huge rock called as Pahangala.
If you are looking for a less crowded attraction in Kandy, This is a must visit for you. In a calm and peaceful location, its also located on a hilltop. This stone temple is also decorated with traditional arts.
Tip: Make sure that you have covered your shoulders and knees before entering all the religious places in Sri Lanka. And thats good if you can keep a small money in your hand as a donations.
2. Visiting Garrison Cemetry
British Garrison Cemetery is a must visit place if you ever visit Kandy. This properly-maintained cemetery includes 163 graves from colonial instances. If you are visiting the temple of Tooth Relic from the front entrance, you will definitely not miss the signboard of the British Garrison Cemetery. You have to walk along that road for 500 meters to enter the cemetery.

3. Walk around the Kandy Lake
Kandy Lake is the most interesting thing you see when you visit Kandy. It’s in the middle of the town covering a big area. You can spend the evening sitting on a bench around the lake.

Kandy has a lot of things to explore! You can just walk across old beautiful streets in Kandy while experiencing day to day lifestyle of Sri Lankans.
5. Taking the Most Beautiful Train Ride in the Country
The train is one of the easiest ways to get to Kandy. And from there you can go to misty hill country by train. This is known as one of the most scenic train rides in the world. It takes 4 hours to reach Nanu Oya. And 7 hours to reach Ella enjoying the beautiful mountains.
